HDFC bank said on Tuesday it was looking to address mobile and internet banking issues some customers are facing, according to a tweet from the bank. The bank’s response came after some of its customers again reported problems accessing online banking and mobile banking.
HDFC Bank tweeted: “Some customers are having intermittent problems accessing our NetBanking / MobileBanking application. We are looking at it as a priority for resolution. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and ask you to try again after some time. Thank you.”
The lender continues to face technical issues, even as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts a special audit of banks’ IT infrastructure. Last year in December, the RBI temporarily banned HDFC Bank from launching new digital banking initiatives and issuing new credit cards after seriously considering service outages at the lender over the past two years. .
RBI later commissioned an external IT company to perform a special audit of its digital infrastructure.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had said the regulator was concerned about some shortcomings and that HDFC Bank needed to strengthen its IT system before expanding further. Previously, HDFC Bank Managing Director and CEO Shashidhar Jagdishan apologized to customers and promised to work on the shortcomings.
Jagdishan said the bank suffered two outages – in November 2018 and December 2019 – and that it had brought in outside expertise and substantially implemented the inputs to strengthen the infrastructure and IT systems. Unexpectedly, another incident occurred on November 21, 2020, and the main reason was the power outage in the bank’s main data center, Jagdishan said.
