AT THOSE 2022, Samsung showcased several new foldable screen concepts, including dual-folding smartphones and foldable laptops. Now the company has reportedly received a patent for a new kind of foldable laptop. According to a report by SamMobile, the Korean giant has obtained a patent for a convertible laptop with a removable folding screen. The report further reveals that the design was recently approved and published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
According to the report, Samsung’s unique type of laptop has two main components, like any other convertible laptop: a screen and a keyboard base. What makes this device unique apart from the detachable foldable screen is the keyboard base which is able to split in two. According to the report, each part of the keyboard has its own battery and input circuitry. It also reveals that only half of the keyboard hides a processor and a microcontroller.
The report suggests that the convertible area of the device could be quite small when folded and unpacked, which will make it compact and easy to carry. The upper part could be used as a large foldable tablet. The company hasn’t officially revealed any information about these devices, but the app does give a hint as to which products the tech giant might be exploring.
Patents filed by tech companies to always get to the actual products and if Samsung plans to release a convertible laptop with a detachable foldable display, it may take a few years. The company is reportedly preparing to launch the Samsung Galaxy S22 series with the latest Exynos chipset at a galaxy unboxed 2022 event next month. The upcoming lineup is rumored to include three devices – the Samsung Galaxy S22, Samsung Galaxy S22+, and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
